There is a guy on here that makes & sells D-ring mounts. They look really beefy & are better than ANY tow hook brackets made. Plus, you could always build a bumper around it.
I wish I'd found him before I bought my crappy Tomkin mounts.

I wouldn't trust those with side load without connecting the sides together with some like 2x3
I was going to make some to sell with the connecting tube but haven't yet

I was gonna reply it's just like a bumper but never thought about it-you're right. There is nothing to keep them from spreading.

Thank you for the clarification.

Ya I feel like that's the #1 flaw with them, it its a huge flaw if it actually fails
My design ties the two sides together and the tabs are 1/4" thicker

The most reason for Tow hook hatred is people not using their G2 Housing Group and accompanying Grey Matter prior to use.

Tow hooks should be used for recovery in the direction that the mounting hardware points when intersected by a straight line.

In layman's terms....
Use your brain before applying brawn. Don't try to yank your junk side-ways via OEM style tow-hooks, bad things will happen.
