Just a thought, could a steering gear box being loose cause death wobble? I'm not talking about the 3 mounting bolts, but the box itself.

Your meaning the internals of the box? What makes you think they're loose? They can be adjusted.

I know this may be a dumb question but after you installed your lift did you center your axle before bolting the trac-bar back up? I too just did a 3 inch lift on my front end and I bolted up my trac-bar with the front end still in the air then dropped it on the ground, drove it down the street and had severe death wobble. Came back home un-did my trac bar, got a ratchet strap and centered my axle then adjusted the trac-bar accordingly. Went for another test drive and no more death wobble AND I am positive my front wheel alignment is still a tad off but no death wobble as of now.

I bought my XJ lifted 2 years ago, prev owner had the left on for a few years when I bought it. But the axle in centered, I did have the same issue when I replaced it a year ago.
