Alright so i've decided i want to build my own steering set up. I've got a cart full of everything i think i need from Ruffstuff other than the DOM tube for now because i think a local place might have some.

Steering School-image-3634040432.jpg

The plan is 2"x .25 Wall DOM 1" ID with all the Ruffstuff crap. What else should i need? What length Grade 8 bolts in the knuckles and pitman arm and then lastly, will i need safety washers?

I plan to run the tie rod UTK together and run the drag link on top of the knuckle and on the bottom of the pitman arm. I'm at 4.5" right now on 33x10.50 KM2's so i mean im not stressing anything but i want to help her out... Running an IRO double shear track bar as well.

Biggest thing right now is what else will i need from Ruffstuff or whatever. This kit http://www.ballisticfabrication.com/...rs_p_1337.html has safety washer but i dont know what to use from Ruffstuff because they use these:http://www.ruffstuffspecialties.com/...4TO58SAFE.html

Or do i need these?

You're going to have a hard time finding 2" x .25 wall DOM with a 1" ID.

but I know what you meant.

Looks like you have everything ordered that you need. Ruffstuff has misalignment bushings with safety washers made on but they were too tall for my liking so I just used 1.5" diameter flat washers between the bolt and heim on both sides.

Also, don't use misalignment spacers on the tie rod. Just use reducer bushings.

I was hoping you would find this haha

I wasn't thinking lol what i have in the cart has to go in 1" ID tube and im getting the hex inserts which cost a little more but i dont really mind.

I might step up and run 1.5 OD tube, still have to see what the scrap place here has.

You just used regular washers instead of the ones i was talking about? So just stack a few of them lol?

I was planning on doing the 3/4 by 5/8 all on the tie rod and using the 3/4 rod end set on the drag link. I'm having a hard time understanding all this so the more and simplistic the explanation is the better lol

I guess i really just need to understand the knuckle situation... Like what is between the heim joint and the knuckles on the driver and passenger side along with the pitman arm. Also, how do you say it lol? Heeeeimm or Hiiiiem? Is it a He or a Hi, always bothered me and ive heard both haha

Ok here ya go:

I used 1.5 x .25 DOM. Any larger and you're going to have to bend it to prevent hitting the diff. You're already going to have to trim the coil buckets and maybe have interference with the tracbar mount.

Drag link you need:

(2) 3/4 heims
(2) 1" ID tube weld in bungs
(2) jam nuts
(2) 3/4 - 5-8 high misalignment bushings.

Tie Rod:
All the same stuff except use:
(2) 3/4 - 5/8 step down bushings instead of the misalignment spacers. It's the same thing but they're flat.

Then use 5/8s bolts the correct length.

Just call Dan tomorrow and tell him you want this...

without the tubing. You'll have to source the tube yourself...

They aren't on there. I had to get mine from Ballistic fab.

I might have a couple left over...

I'll have to look.

You MIGHT.

I had to trim when I did the WJ knuckle swap back in the days of the D30.

Significant enough to weaken any of it?

Not really, but I drastically chopped it off and rebuilt it out of the way.

I also had to chop the sway bar mounts. But the difference is that I went OTK so I had more clearance issues than you'll have.

Worst case scenario you can put in steering stops and lose a small amount of turning radius.
