so today i found out that my steering gear box is leaking very bad and its so bad its even causing my steering to act funny so im thinking upgraded steering box. i was wondering if anyone has done this and what luck they have had, ive read a little bit about the durango swap and just want to get opinions about whats best.

durango swap was what I did. worked fine I guess. there aren't many options besides stock replacement and durango unless you're going to buy an aftermarket box for big $$$

a tj box will fit on our xjs. i think the only thing is, is that you have to just drill one extra mounting bolt hole.

Ya money is kind of tight, I was reading about the Durango box but still have a lot of questions does anyone know a good write up in it? And the seal kit is also and option but we will see about the Durango box

I'm in the same boat as you right now bro. My gearbox is garbage. Its almost unsafe to drive. Moneys tight but I'm just gonna get a jy Durango box. I55 auto salvage by me has 2 for $75 a piece.

Keep in mind that about 90% of the durango boxes (no known madness as to which or why not all) have a piston stop that only allows about 85% of the overall throw in the pitman arm, and can / will yield less turning radius, unless removed. Its not easy nor hard, to pull it apart and get the spacer out. But it should be done.
