I like this thread. The Aussie 8.25 29 splines just came back into stock and I ordered one with a ship date of 5-18-12. After install I'll let you guys know how it is. I have an Aussie up front (D 30) already and I forget its there on road unless I'm doing a tight turn below 15mph. Even then it's just a small clicking sound. No bangs or clunks.

Ya no kidding, they are popping up on Ebay all over the place. I missed out one months ago before I bought my Spartan by a couple of bucks. Needless to say I wasnt the happy camper, but over the weekend I started seeing them again. I didnt bother looking to see if they were preorders, or what not though.

my money is on them not tightening the bolt down that holds it in place. even the other guy said two but neither one was from a "weak" cross pin.

I myself has never had a locked axle. So my question is for a vehicle thats going to be mainly a vehicle I drive when the weather is bad like snowing and so on and a trail rig and sometimes a vehicle for the road just to drive it every few weeks. How bad is driving a vehicle with the locked front axle? My locker of choice is also the spartan locker

Honestly in 2wd and spartan in the front I can not tell a difference from stock when driving. On slow manuvers in parking lots and such it will make noise every once and a while. Sometimes very loud like you broke something. But its rare.

Its my daily driver and I have no problems even taking it on long trips. I won't run a locked rear end though for a daily driver.

What's wrong with a locked rear ? I don't have any issues with mine and I live in the mountains as deal with several feet of snow. On roads here there is no way In hell I would lock the front cause of winter unless it was selectable.

Lunchbox lockers engage under power. The rear is under power. The front is not in 2wd

Off road I have tested front vs rear and the front works better in most situations, but is less apparent on the road.

I like a nice pleasant road ride like stock. So I don't want a rear auto locker that engages under power.

I never need 4wd in the winter unless it gets over 8in of snow, which is rare.

Anyone one have an experience with a selectable in the rear and snow on the highway? Kind of scepticle of putting one in for the reason that it might decide to lock when accelerating at higher speeds and want to kick out.

a selectable would be completely unnoticeable as long as it's switched off.. it can't lock unless you flip the switch

We got some snow here in OH. About 8in where I live. So I was alittle worried about having the spartan in the front on icy roads. Anyways this is my winter spartan review.

1. 2wd sucks! Its very apparent that the lunch box locker makes it tougher to push the front tires in 2wd. So instead of going around in 2wd I had to use 4wd.

2. 4wd worked great! The locker in the font never was unpredictable, and never caused any problems even on icy roads. Was very happy here.

3. When I can afford it the lunchbox locker is coming out and a detroit tru-trac is going in. Now don't anyone start anything! LOL But A front locker has its advantages, and disadvantages. More disadvantages for me.
