Lock rite seems to hav the most complaints about breaking. And if you look up spartan, quite a few people have had an issue with them randomly catchin in the front while in 2wd. I KNOW that many people have no issues. But statistically speaking. More people have that issue with spartan than aussie.
I am also thinking about getting an auto locker for the front. If it is in 2wd I understand it shouldn't be noticeable. But what if you need 4wd due to snow on the roads? How does it handle locked up in the front at higher than trail speeds?
You get a pop every now and then even in 4wd. But other than that, you can not really notice it from stock.

I notice a pops when going through parking lots but it has never once locked up in 4x2.
There is a difference between aussie and spartan. The spartan comes with a heavier duty cross pin shaft which is a separate part when you buy the aussie locker. The aussie also costs more, however if you are a "be american buy american" kind of guy, go with the aussie.
When running an "auto locker" in the rear you will have to coast around turns or it can lock up. It probably wont make you go out of control, but it can cause early wear on your tires.
Drove mine through snow and did fine... admittedly, with my old duratracs I didn't even get out of 4x2...

I prefer the Aussies but Spartans have developed a great reputation.
