Spare tire carrier
I cannot afford an aftermarket bumper nor do I want to install a swing-away. Has anyone ever tried these?

I only have 31" tires and I was thinking of trying this and welding it to a removable hitch extension. Maybe I could just upgrade the bolts and reinforce the welds? Is this a terrible idea or am I on to something?

What do you plan to clamp it to?
If you were to just use bolts and bolt it to the Jeep... What would you bolt it to? The toilet paper thin rear bumper? I'd give it two weeks before it fell off in the middle of the mall parking lot.
If you don't wheel hit up JCR for one of their fancy pants reese hitch spare tire mabobs.
Otherwise, throw it in the back.

i keep a full size 31" tire in the stock location.
i used an angled bolt from a grand cherokee and made a bracket to slightly raise the back seat forward. i think i could fit a 33 back there if I needed to.
this isnt a jeep rim the pic was taken before i swaped the tire onto the new wheel. you need the angled grand cherokee bolt to secure the wheel

i only raised the seat back on one side and mounted my tire with the gc bolt instead of the way they mounted it but i got the idea from here.

lol! That's made to clamp on to a steel tube RV bumper...

Plus I used the spot right there where the little donut was to mount my fire extinguisher and it looks too good to move it lol

I don't worry about my departure angle for the type of wheeling I do. Also, my plan is to weld it to a removable hitch extension so should I ever need to have that ability I can just throw it up in my roof rack for the trip. It's designed for trailer or RV tires, definitely smaller than 31s lol. But the idea is to strengthen it (hopefully) to make it work.
