I cannot afford an aftermarket bumper nor do I want to install a swing-away. Has anyone ever tried these?

I only have 31" tires and I was thinking of trying this and welding it to a removable hitch extension. Maybe I could just upgrade the bolts and reinforce the welds? Is this a terrible idea or am I on to something?

lol! That's made to clamp on to a steel tube RV bumper...

What do you plan to clamp it to?

If you were to just use bolts and bolt it to the Jeep... What would you bolt it to? The toilet paper thin rear bumper? I'd give it two weeks before it fell off in the middle of the mall parking lot.

If you don't wheel hit up JCR for one of their fancy pants reese hitch spare tire mabobs.

Otherwise, throw it in the back.

i keep a full size 31" tire in the stock location.

i used an angled bolt from a grand cherokee and made a bracket to slightly raise the back seat forward. i think i could fit a 33 back there if I needed to.

this isnt a jeep rim the pic was taken before i swaped the tire onto the new wheel. you need the angled grand cherokee bolt to secure the wheel

go jeep has a good write up

i only raised the seat back on one side and mounted my tire with the gc bolt instead of the way they mounted it but i got the idea from here.

It may help you to understand if you actually read the original post. I am aware of what the mount is designed for and I do not plan on bolting it on. I have a hitch extension. My plan is to weld some square tubing up from that, not far enough to interfere with the hatch, and then weld the pivot point of this mount to that. The point here is to save money; as I said in my original post I cannot afford an aftermarket bumper (nor do I have any use for one). I most likely will not be able to afford any "fancy pants tire mabobs". I do not "wheel" so much as I simply "adventure" and just drive through mud. If that's not good enough for you, so be it.

That looks pretty good, I just have other uses for my cargo space
Plus I used the spot right there where the little donut was to mount my fire extinguisher and it looks too good to move it lol

I don't worry about my departure angle for the type of wheeling I do. Also, my plan is to weld it to a removable hitch extension so should I ever need to have that ability I can just throw it up in my roof rack for the trip. It's designed for trailer or RV tires, definitely smaller than 31s lol. But the idea is to strengthen it (hopefully) to make it work.
