This is the right way to do sound deadening. sounddeadenershowdown.com
Lately people have been looking at his XJ pricing and freaking out. The price he lists is for a 100% complete project. Simply doing the front floor and doors will achieve a remarkable effect and cost much less. I'd even say doing the front floor and doors right is more effective than people using laying Dynamat/Lizard Skin/FatMat/whatever across the whole vehicle (what a waste of money and material!). Products like those are not meant to block sound--only to reduce panel resonance/rattle. Don Sambrook actually got started doing a blog where he simply compared the efficacy of products like that to each other. That lead to him learning more and more about how to properly acoustically dampen a space and creating his CLD tiles and current methods.
For car stereo stuff, I can't recommend Crutchfield.com highly enough.

Whoa. That sound deadening site is crazy. Dude is really serious about sound deadening. I was planning a dynamat or fat mat with an mlv layer on top. But he pointed out that you only need 25% coverage for the deadening material, which saves a lot of money. Also he points out that a lot of mlv products have a serious smell and he guarantees no smell from his.
Lots of good stuff on that sight.

Well that was hard to upload but these pictures show what I did and why it worked well.
What you can't tell in the pictures is the prep work befor and after the installation. I stripped cleaned painted the metal. I then sealed any seams with a metallic based silicon. I did 3 layers on the floor and several layers on the insulation on the rear sides and rear doors A pillars and under any plastic trim I also added felt patches in known squeak spots it all added up to an effective reduction in cabin noise and temperature and I haven done the front or roof yet.

Finished interior with rear seat deleted carpet was professionally cleaned and looks brand new. The sound deadening and insulation was a marketable improvement
Crap that was the before shot. I'll find another to show the final shot with out the seat and Spare tire mount in the back.
