Can't wait to see the final product! Its looking awesome so far. I'd love to paint mine myself. I'm just scared it'll come out looking horrible.
You could WEAR a banana costume and go wheeling with it! LOL

All jokes aside...That looks great for a DIY in a garage. I'm very impressed and would really like to give it a shot on mine next. About how much time and money do you have into it so far? Also, what kind of compressor are you running for the paint gun? I've only got small tanks so I feel it would take me forever to spray mine down.

Heres a couple action pics and some finished during the drying process.
Great project! I say anybody who wants to do it go for it! ill help I also got a few pictures of what tools we are using.
So here is a list of what i used
-Orbital sander with 120 grit for the old clear coat and then went over it in 220/300 whatever i had.
-Air compressor
-Paint spraying kit made by kobalt- 60 bucks at local lowes worked freakin great!
-Air moisture capture thinga ma bob. ( helps keep water out of your air )
-1 gallon automotive paint
-1/2 gallon clear coat
-3/4-1 gallon of WHITE primer. IF your gonna paint yellow i cannot stress enough to use white primer and to take out ANY black marks! They show worst then baby jesus's shiny _____.
Mustve haves are-
-Time
-Space
-patients....
-confidence.
Biggest must haves!!!-
Respirator
Full eye googles. My grandpa was cleaning out the gun, and we had just got done putting paint thinner through it. He was disconnecting the air hose and air hose came off shooting air into the gun where the paint feeds to the nozzle but paint thinner was there and right into his eyes. Hes fine after a 2 hour eye flush at the ER. I cannot stress this enough.
A painters hat unless your bald
Now here is a trick my paint guy told me that worked. Lets say you get a run in your paint. Let it get tacky and then take an ice cube to it and press, also run it back and forth. IT flattens the run and ice doesnt ruin the paint
Any questions just ask we were running around 35-40PSI. I had to tear the electrical apart on our air compressor and solder a bead into the contact points.
Heres the pics that are labeled.
Our air compressor we put in my grandpas old office space that way it didnt stir up dust-
Paint sprayer and can-
This is that air capture thing, connect to hose and connect to the gun.
Action shot, my paint kit came with a coil hose which was sweet!
Action shot but a nice yellow view
Again
Check out that shine!!!

Sorry guys forgot to add this step
Take a buffer with a new bonnet and go over the entire jeep to remove any over spray. Also helps clean it up for when you get ready for the clear!
So shiny even without clear!
Couple shiny things my jeep and his head
SHINY!
