Yeah man, I spent over 35 hours of prep time. The scratches are hardly there really (the picture makes them look a LOT worse than they are). My hood was in terrible condition when we started. Half of the hood had paint on it, and the other half was a rough charcoal color, we don't know why.

I think the scratches are only showing because of the light coat of paint we put on. You can see them with a certain glare on the hood, but your fingernail won't catch in them or anything. We only used 2.5 quarts for the whole car which was definitely not enough. That got one medium coat on and that was about it. Don't make the same mistake I did

Jesus dude.. what kinda paint sprayer did you use??? I used a little over 1/2 gallon of primer and still had left overs for 5 coats!!! I got 1 gallon of paint which is going to be more then enough so I can make my paint really thick and durable same with the clear. I have like 20 hours of prep too lol

Same thing. Gravity HVLP spray gun. You're saying you put on 5 coats of primer with a 1/2 gallon (2 quarts)?

The final coat should be one thin coat, then two heavier coats. Once we started spraying, and realized about how much each 1/2-quart would cover, we had to just kind of improvise at the time. On a scale to 5, with 1 being really thin, and 5 being a perfect thick coat, we probably got a 2.5 lol.

I'm headed back up to school in a week and we couldn't leave it in primer for that long of a time. In October or so we're going to spend a weekend doing the paint the proper way. We also used pre-mixed Duplicolor Paint Shop paint, with the hardener, reducer, etc already in it. So i'm sure since you mixed your own, it's better quality as well as better results.

Haha I didn't mix mine. My paint guy did he's charging us based on how much we use. So we use 1/2 of paint thinner he will charge us for half. I'm using a siphon feed sprayer and its freaking great

Nice man! Helps to know people in any industry for sure. I agree, I love yellow paint. I was actually really close to painting my XJ bright yellow with black rockers.

The air compressor is a huge one lol 35 gallon tank about 130PSI not set fully but you only need 35 to 40psi. For my sprayer. Make sure you do a great job on prep work.

Yeah, it's true that the only thing that matters in the end is how much time you spend on prep work.
