Default smaller center pin in leaf hole for spring pack

Soo, As I'm building spring packs for my 2" lift, I came across one that has a larger center pin than my XJ pack. This pack is a payload B from a '95 Ford Ranger. Would using the main leaf (eyes cut off, of course) in the XJ pack as an Add-a-leaf affect anything with the larger center pin hole?

I believe the Ranger's center pin is about 1/16" larger than the XJ's (3/8" vs 5/16"), but when sandwiched together with proper torque on the u-bolts, I should have no problem, right? I'm unsure about shear forces and how they would play into the equation...

Any thoughts?

I just did a s10 bastardpack on my xj. Just drill ur cj leaf to the ranger one and get the pin gor the ranger. Advanced auto has the pin set. One for each side. I think there like $10 for the kit

I have plenty of center pins, but I'm doing this WITHOUT taking my leafs off the XJ. I don't want to have to deal with busted weld nuts inside the frame rails. Plus I need to keep mods to a minimum and drilling into spring steel is not something I want to do right now. This is an experiment of what leaves I and what arrangements give what lift.

Why don't you want to drill the leaf pack? it takes 2 minutes.

Use a cobalt bit, very low speed ,lots of oil and heavy feed.

I hear masonry bits work well also.

Not even the pack, one leaf. Just drill it out and get a round head bolt from lowes and go

Hell, bring it to Greenwood and I'll drill it for you.

I dont see how your going to get around not drilling it if you want to use a leaf with a larger hole its going to move around on you if you dont.

and with a hand held drill and a good drillbit you can prevent the need to take it off, and it wont take long.

or try another leaf with the same size center hole.

Not good news. I was hoping to keep this to experiment to non-modified springs....oh well, take them back for another set.

Would the leaf really move all that much in the spring pack once it's installed and the u-bolts are tightened down?

It is just one leaf. 1/16" isn't much. There are front and rear clamps keeping the extra leaf from moving side to side. How much trouble can he really have?

You don't know if the ranger leaf is really going to work for you.

I would just install it and see if you get the lift and ride you want.

If you do, I would just leave it unless you see signs of movement.
