Depends if they will be in mud or water or anything like that cause just as a DD you wont need them. If you get mud or anything on them just give them a good wash
They are a total waste. They trap mud water and small sand and rock particles... which scratch the rod, wich then cause them to leak. Sure they looked cool in the 80's when everyone was running 4 shocks at each wheel... but not nowadays

Ya I went with out. I ordered my shocks from rough country and got the boots. Didn't put them on. My XJ is more of a dd though. And I figuered I would just hose them off. I really didn't want them on only for the fact that dirt can get trapped in them. But I only thought about that after I ordered my shocks with the boots. O well.

You need the boots to breathe a little, otherwise they will balloon or collapse all the time. The idea is to keep the salt spray off the shaft, will rust and cause them to leak
