Shock bar pin eliminators and shock extensions ??
Hello all, was thinking of lifting my 99 XJ a little, am considering the Rocky Road Budget Lift, 2 inch, with shock bar pin eliminators that extend the stock shocks. Problem is, I'm on a budget. I'd love to get longer shocks (like SkyJackers that I've used in the past) but they ride harder and cost more than my budget allows right now. My existing shocks are kinda beat, so was thinking of putting on new stock shocks, something affordable like Gabriel Ultra's ($23 or so each at AutoAnything). Question is: do these BPE things work? Will stock length shocks be OK? Keep in mind, this is a 99 2WD, only off-roading it'll see is occasional dirt road and some fire trails. Suggestions for decent shocks that don't break the bank ?

Well, I don't want to spend much. Was thinking $100ish for all four. I had Gabriel Guardians on a small truck, were horrible, too cheap. Put Gabriel Ultra's on a 92 F150, were OK, nothing special. But, I got the Ultras for around $100. I've used SkyJackers in the past, were OK, again, nothing special, are on my wife's Grand Cherokee as well, noisy but work.I bought them at a time when you could by cosmetic blems from SkyJacker directly, got those 4 for around $100. I'm actually a big fan of KYB Gas-A-Just shocks, those things work GREAT. But are a little outside my budget.
Here's my concern though. I'm afraid of I cheap out too much on the shocks, I'll end up with death wobble or a harsh ride, or just wasting my $100 on crap. I'm thinking I might have to wait, save up a few more sheckles and get the KYB's or something else decent. Reminder: Is 2WD that's going to see mostly daily driver duty, roadtrips with lots of highway miles, and the occasional dirt road and fire trail once or twice a month for a few hours. SO, thinking of leaning more towards a comfortable shock like the KYB rather than a dedicated off-road shock.

I got some really good condition blue body shocks I am willing to let go for next to nothing. They had a nice soft ride. Pm me if you want them.

Thing is I noticed my shocks would be turned 90 degrees from original position. Maybe a problem?

That link I posted shows how to do it but I'm not sure about the position the shock ends up in. Maybe stressing them? Aftermarket BPE's keep the shock mounted the same.
