Default Rustys header

As anyone had experience with this header? It's about $250, just looking for pros and cons of it.

Basically the same thing as the APN header except more expensive. http://www.ineedparts.com/apn-jeep-e...-manifold.html

Minor fitment issues with 99+ intakes. Nothing a tiny amount of grinding usually doesn't fix.

really? So you truly are just paying for a name when you get APN or borla? It would go on a 95 but I have the 99+ intake on it.

So what am I better off to get? I want it to have a deeper better tone than the stock manifold too.. Is that APN manifold going to be about the same as the rustys even though it's not a "header"?

Your tone is going to be dictated by your exhaust size/the muffler you have more than your header. Check out the "exhaust sound" thread for some ideas and see if one is close to what your looking for.

The APN is used alot because it is cheap. I have no personal experience with one.
I have had a Gibson, a Borla, and now an AFE one throughout the years. They all have worked great... Borla had more of a "seat of your pants" effect than the Gibson did. I cant comment on the AFE's performance as I threw it on with my stroker but I really like the design/truly merged collector. The Ebay ones are almost an exact replica of the Gibson (have held them side by side). They probably don't last as long. I don't think Ive ever actually seen a Rusty's on anything.

Uh, no. That will not fit a 2000 or 2001 without a considerable amount of work, some of it illegal.

I'm happy with my APN header, especially for the price.

Throw a flex pipe in your downpipe somewhere. Will help from cracking whatever new one you get.

I've thought about It but those flex pipes fail way too often for my liking ..

Since APN is CHEAPER than Rusty's, you're not paying for a name. Borla is in a totally different realm: 304 stainless instead of 409, longer primaries and secondaries, downpipe included....I'm sure some of the money goes to pay for the Borla name, but their header is a different animal than Rusty's/APN/insert eBay clones here.

99 intake might create some fitment issues. There are literally TONS of posts out there about the APN header as it has been a favorite among many XJ owners for a long time for its bang-for-buck. It's the only header I'd choose in the "cheap header" category; I've always wanted to like Pacesetter's, but I can't ignore all of the stories of poor quality/durability I've heard/read about them. I like Thorley and Borla (maybe AFE, but still not too sure about them) for higher-end headers, and I personally lean Borla, but APN's $160 vs Thorley/Borla/AFE's $500+ is hard to ignore--$500-600 for a header that still isn't designed the way I'd like it to be is asking A LOT.

2.5" is actually flirting with being too big for a 4.0, but you're not crippling yourself with it or anything. New motor/trans mounts and a quality flex pipe is very solid advice for protecting your header from cracks--I don't know of a single 4.0 header that is immune to cracking. Unless you want to spare no expense, go with a locally-sourced downpipe or a Walker downpipe from Rockauto and a Dorman replacment header or an APN.
