Anybody have any good, and by good I mean cheap, D.I.Y. Fixes for rusted out rockers? I know plenty of us have this same cancer after 10-12 years of rough livin with our jeeps. Looking for something I can do, at home hopefully, to fix/cover/replace those old rusty rockers.

I wouldnt really say its "cheap" due to high prices of steel but well worth it for sure. https://www.cherokeeforum.com/f58/rockers-75178/

Well I'm thinking more along the lines of cutting the old rust out and cutting good rockers off of a wreck or replacing with diamond plate. to my knowledge ( admittedly limited) the rocker has no structural importance. Is it really necessary to replace it with what is basically a frame rail, Boxed metal tube?

I would replace with similar gauge metal at the very least.
Also moving this to Advanced Tech.

they are part of the structure. good rockers installed at the correct point will actually improve frame stiffness.
im doing 2x6 or 2x8 box, made out of 2x2 box welded together (stupid strong). cut out the old rockers and slide the new ones in place, you can test fit with a wood 2x4. then im gonna bolt them to the frame, drilled and tapped into the 3/16 box through the strongest points of the frame. thats where the pillars come down into the main "frame rail". where the pillars come down is where the metal is thickest, or else you would just be going into thinner sheet metal. though i will also add bolts between the pillar mounts for added support. supposedly, these rockers are ridiculously strong, and add frame stiffness. People have been known to actually jump their XJ and land on the rockers with little to no damage.
Credit for this design goes to Bill McCarthy at SVE Performance of East Haven, CT. though Bill uses 2x4 steel, 2x2 box is what i have and will make it work.

Burnt Hills? I'm in Ballston Lake. I use some aluminum diamond plate and body adhesive/screws to attach them. Some day I'll use 2x6 box tubing, but steel prices are pretty high right now and I don't feel like doing it...

anyway they have an ebay store also just search "classic to current" on ebay and you can check it out
here is a link to the XJ rockers on ebay 15.95 each plus 10 dallors shipping so to your door for 26 dallors you dont get cheaper then that

Haven't seen anyone keep the fender & go after it, most just hack it off and run their boxs right up there..Yours is different and awsome!
And are the military take offs? Like the way that pattern looks.

I did my rockers out of neccesity

When I disected them I found that they were rusting from the inside out

Replaced w/2"X6"X3/16", ~$80, while doing research on the project I found where a guy plug welded 1"X1/8" strap to the bottom of the sill for reinforcement, a sheet metal rocker isn't to suffucient nor easy to weld to.

On second side my bud who was doing the welding suggested putting the strap on top so

Finished product

Hey thanks for the pics. I like the bed liner finish. I'm thinking of doing that too. I found a site that sells the rockers through an eBay store wicked cheap. Should just be a cut out weld in. Pics are big help. Thanks. Looks good.
