Default rust repair

Big project next weekend it to fix rusty flood my 95 XJ. I have some questions about adhesives that you can use to bond metal to metal. Does anyone have any experience using these adhesives if so type works the best?

Ideally you would want them welded in. Though many people rivet them in place and use seam sealer. Personally, I welded mine, and seam sealed with PL construction adhesive.

There is also structural adhesives designed for bonding metal, I think 3M makes them.

My floor job is kinda intersting because at first I riveted the sheet metal in. It sat so long that by the time I got back to the project I had a welder. So I added a few tack welds all around the edge. Then for some reason I decided to go over-kill and fiberglass over the seam with a $20 bondo fiberglass kit from walmart (comes with resin, mat, and hardener).

If I didn't have a welder, I think the rivets and fiberglass would have been more than sufficient.

I then coated it all with epoxy enamel appliance paint (poor mans POR-15), and then a healthy dose of asphalt paint underneath.

I think it should be pretty solid and water tight for years to come
