i have a s/a 4.5" rough country lift, no complaints other than the shocks ride kinda rough when im taking a alternate route around another broke-down rusty's track bar blocking the path while wheelin. been wheeling it for about 3 years now and its solid. if i where to do it again, i would go iro though. i've seen the quality of there kits and never seen anything break. re is too expensive imo, but if you have the money and don't mind blowing it when you can get other mods with the extra $$. more power to ya

The title of this thread makes me say WTF.
Rubicon is so much better its not even worth comparing. And i run on rough country.
Rough country is a cheap entry level kit. Great kit but entry level.

Compared to a clayton or t&t kit? Or heck I guess even your kit (though dont know anyone whoes had one a long time and abuses it... Probly u would be the best to ask how its held up for you and your son but I already know your answer
)... Anyways all visible differences... Full belly skids... Better materials... Engineering of mount placements.. Yatta yatta... Neither have died as a company and came back to life (RE-though dont know details to why? Would like to know though) also reviews back that up as well... Most people I know with RC kits cant keep bushings in them (though could be 50 reasons why not lift brand related) RE's decked out superflex isnt so bad I guess...
Will any kit do the job? Depends on the job... Thats why I say lift brand makes a big difference when deciding what u wanna do with your XJ... All run different components...
your gonna pay for the big setups... Which is why most people dont have them... Everyones on a budget these days...
Now have i owned all these kits personally? no... Have seen them all in person though and researched on most others... Im not the kind to just look at it from 5 feet away and just keep walking either... Then buy the kit cause its got the best stickers on the side... Ill crawl my butt under them amd study the setup... Even on a random persons ride in a walmart parking lot... Lol... Helps me decide what to buy (or build) for my setup way better then looking at google images...

Well my son's L/A's are on another rig, have been for a while since we parted his out.
Ask XJSeth about my L/A's.....
tnt makes a great kit, but I know 3 folks locally that have bent their belly pans.
I recently installed a couple Clayton kits on a WJ and a ZJ for two of friends. They seem to like them but I don't have any experience driving a rig with them installed so I can't speak to the performance on or off-road. I certainly am not a fan of a bolt-together cross member.
Virtually every brand has different product levels, some are entry level only.
RE has a broad range of products from budget boosts to complete long arm kits. I've used a lot of RE products on my rig over the years, started with a 3.5" AAL lift and moved up from there. Did every single part last forever? Of course not. Did the RE components meet or exceed my expectations? Oh Yes!
I've riden in rigs equipped with RC lifts. I learned why the name is Rough Country. I'll leave it at that.
I can't even begin to count how may RE lifts (L/A or S/A) I see on rigs both on the trail and at the mall. It has little to do with looks and more to do with proven performance and reliability.
Are there folks that have complaints about RE (or RC, TNT, Clayton, Zone, BDS, etc, etc)? Well a famous actor once said..."Throw a rock and your bound to hit a critic."

Curious were the t&t kits bent so bad it couldnt be used anymore? Course they are gonna get hit... Better that then my transfer case... Dents and stuff...
I built all my front kit on my xj tied into the crossmember and now I gotta install my sye case... Now im not liking this... Lol... I cant build a crossmember right for my axle worth a dang so its gonna be a pain in the butt trying to get bolts out and then back in later lol... Bolt together is starting to look good...
My mj i think im just gonna build mid arms... Its a DD anyways maybe light wheeling...

not sure how shock valving can't change ride quality. seems everyone that switches to a better shock from the shock provided with a rc lift says its night and day difference.
