Default Round air cleaners

Has anyone replaced their stock air box with a round air cleaner unit on top of the TB? Please share some information about your set up:

Why did you do it? What did you expect to gain or accomplish?
What were the results with respect to mileage?
Any pros? Cons?

The pic gives an idea of what I'm referring to. This is a V8 set up with a 14" unit. Pics would help!

I am watching both your threads hoping that anything positive comes of them. I'd love to free up the ZJ's OEM airbox location for my Optima YellowTop in garage. I havent seen anyone actually pull off a cowl intake on a ZJ and i dont want a snorkel again.

Why not just try the ovaled filter in your other thread... and see for yourself what your results are?

Actually I am going to do it. I just have to wait until I get the steering box business fixed. It steers like crap and since I'll have to drive the XJ quite a bit to test the mileage, you see my dilemma. My research in anticipation of this is going nowhere. But believe me, I'm going to do it.

Also buying a round setup for my V8 DD. With 1 trip the bored 50mm TB got me 4 mpg with stock air box. I anticipate more with the airhat change. If I can get that with the XJ & round filter, I'll be head-over-heels happy.

I have full FIPKs for both vehicles, the XJ's is installed & the Durango'd sitting in a box. Both will be up for sale (well the V8 already is) if this works out.
