I have an 8 inch skyjacker lift on my xj but its with pro comp shocks. Is that why it rides so stiff? What will give me the smoothest ride?

 

long arms, and springs that aren't so big and stiff.

 

Shocks make it ride nicer. long arms make it smother and handle better. but at 8" i am hoping you already have long arms. go with bilstiens. that will give you the best ride quality hands down! 5125 will do but if you want you can get the 5150s. they are about $25 more a shock.

 

long arms make the ride nicer too... angles on the control arms are closer to parrallel to the ground, meaning more of the impacts from bumps are sent up your spring and shock rather than through the control arms to your unibody. Will even make a bigger difference than bilstien shocks. Though I agree with you, bilstiens are awesome.

 

rear shackle angle is the biggest problem with mine. I went to 4.5 inch lift with short arms, then long arms. Not too much of a different. Changed to bilsteins and not too much better. better each time but not what I was looking for. Shackle angle is my problem.

 

What has been said covers it. Long arms, good shocks and a good shackle angle.

That being said having very tall and stiff springs dont help either, like leaf springs that look like U will ride like crap

no your shackle should be close to a 45 degree angle.

 

Tires that are stiff as **** will make it ride worse as well.

 

So should I get a shackle relocation bracket, I found one from rc. And I run my tires are at 25 psi

 

yes get relocation to solve shackle angle

 

bilsteins and the shackle relocation will help but it seems to me that your springs and leafs are heavy duty which means really stiff. I'm thinkin w/ 6 or so months of driving it should be better.
