ng this thread and another, I just called rough country and they are pretty nice. Apparently they switched to a harder bushing recently. The earlier ones were a bit softer. I have to admit the bushing on my had basically no give, it was like a hard piece of plastic more than anything. he also stressed the use of just regular multi-purpose grease, that some grease could eat away at the bushing slowly.

For how tight the spanner nut should go on, it's really just tighten it down until it seats, then go one more turn to the next notch.

Well, on my third set of bushings and they are already making noise after less than 200 miles. I am so pissed that I have to go and spend 170 bucks on some currie johnny joints to replace the them. I have called and called rough country and all they do is send me new bushings, and say they have never heard of this problem. Oh well, buyers beware of the flex joints from rough country.

The passenger side is tight. I have to use a come along to remove passenger side upper and lower control arm. The drivers side however comes right off without having to relieve any pressure on the control arms.

Do you think maybe if I lengthened the lower control arms to give me some more positive caster it might help keep the bushings in place?

no no no you wouldn't wanna do that adding caster will not help the situation its rather a pre-load issue or just a junk flex joint design

Pardon my ignorance, how do I preload the joint?

Had the same problem with mine. The earlier joints were junk. Ever the RC rep told me that. They sent me the new bushings with the new housings that have the adjustable preload on them. I haven't had any problems since.
