Default Roll Cage...

Ok guys my next time off im going to buy a second vechile so I can take my heep err i mean jeep off the road and start to modify it. Most ppl swap in bigger axles and tires and lift before they do their cage but for me its my first priority, basicly cause my jeeps floor is pretty rotten and I gotta fix that anyways. But Rather then just tie the roll cage into the uni-rail, I was thinking of running tube all the way down both uni-rails with the cage and fasting it to the uni-rail is several spots. basicly im wondering if this is worth it?

I plated my rails with 5/16 and the cage I'm building once it warms up will go through the floor and tie into it. Kinda like what you are talking about.

Cage isn't built yet and there is 8" of snow right now so no I don't. Luck up unitbody stiffeners and that's basically what I have. Just built mine out of plate and angle.

As long as the cage mounting points are solidly affixed to the suspension mounting points a lot of load is taken off the unit rail. You can leave it alone and use the extra time and budget in beefing up the suspension mountings. But… if the rail can be easily reinforced I don’t see a reason not to.

I've spent a lot of time in rally car pits. I think the XJ community should pay more attention to rally cars because the XJ is basically a car-type body. And rally engineers know how to make these things last in extremely abusive conditions. Look up some pics on line and note the (extremely large) foot pads used on rally cars and the triangulation methods. This can easily be ported over to XJ use.
