Rocker Replacement
Searching here, a few other forums, and google haven't helped me find the few answers I'm looking for. I have a small amount of rust on my passenger side rocker directly under the passenger door. I want to just cut it all out and do 2x6 rocker panels. But under further investigating and screwdriver poking, the rust goes just to the inside of the pinch seem.
My questions are :
1.) Can I use 2x8 3/16" tube instead of 2x6 so that I can cut past the pinch seem, but still have a couple inches of tube to work as a slider?
2.) Is it safe or an okay idea to cut just past the pinch seem?
3.) Should I just weld the tube to the floor and whats left of the rocker underneath the door?

I wouldn't cut beyond the pinch seem IMHO. I would weld the box tube to the pinch seem and the door jamb and call it good. Just my 2 cents for what its worth. Keep in mind its a just a 4X4 unibody station wagon with solid axles.

Thinking my best option is to patch the small rust spots on the inside of the pinch seem. None of those spots are wider than 1" or longer than 4".
Here is my one section of rust:

I'm having new ones put on my 98 XJ next week. I had new ones put on my 96 and there the entire rocker on both sides...gone. If the pinch seem is in decent shape, which yours appear to be, I would not mess with it. My 98 is a bit worse than yours, but fortunately my guy won't have to fab up new metal to weld the rockers to.
