What have some of you done with your rusted rockers besides replace them? One side has a hole middle ways and the other is just started rusting. Any kind of rock slider that covers them and works good or any other ideas? Thanks!

Rusty's makes some steel covers for the rocker panels. You should probably cover the rust with some sort of inhibitor before putting something over it, though.

 

Covering up rust is a great way to completely rot out the body. Previous owner of my Jeep just welded new rockers over the old rusty ones.

Worst idea I've ever seen.

 

X2 and they aren't meant to cover up rust those are meant for rocker panel armor.

 

the 2x6 way is by far the easiest and cheapest route, I'm going to tackle this job later this summer, hope it gives as good results as the ones posted above

 

My old jeep had 2x6x3/16. I'd stick with 1/8" though if given the choice, easier to weld to the thin metal there and still plenty strong.

He asked for a way to cover them and I provided an option. I never said it was a good idea.

 

It's a jeep... It's gonna rust out eventually anyway. Thanks for the options. May just end up welding new oem ones in sometime but I don't really have the extra time to tackle that.

 

Mine look stock, but are bent 1/4" plate (yes, radius included) and fully welded into the body in place of the stock beer can material.
They've been filled with foam and coated with POR-15 on the bottom inner portion, and Monstalined on the rest.
NO rust gonna happen here, and strong as hell.
Looking like a stock rocker, it's like camouflaged body armor.

 

Um. What kind of foam, please? And were the rocket backing plates replaced?

 

Industrial spray. like expandable only a finer cell expansion.
unsure of the backing plates.
drilling in and filling the all the pockets with the foam and sealing everything with coating after it's dried a few days provides extra sound deadening and keeps out any moisture that "could" collect and rot metal.
This was a "must do" for my old J-10 short bed. Can't see how they thought a bunch of open pockets under the body and frame were a good idea for "any" vehicle.
