Where are you located? Perhaps one of the members would be willing to weld something up for you for a fair price. Get with me this time next year (after I get the garage built and perhaps am in town for more than a week), and I'd be willing to weld something up for you cheap.

What sizes should I get just for the rockers? 3/16" and what is the typical length I didn't measure my jeep to know for sure. If I remember correctly the shop wanted $100 for both at about 5-6' of it.

Getting stationed in Norfolk is likely, biggest Naval base in the world. Offer stands, you want to drive down to the house, come on. I'm about 60 miles south of Norfolk.

I highly highly doubt I will ever come close to breaking one. Think about it. Most air tanks are sheetmetal just in a more ideal shape. I'm using 3/16 steel, much stronger. If one does some how get damaged it won't explode it will just be a rush of air and that's it. Air doesn't explode things like some people seem to think it will. If I break one of the 2x6 sliders then I have seriously seriously damaged the rest of my Cherokee too. It's thicker than anything from the factory.
Well, your standard air tank isn't getting beat up by rocks and such, nor is it supporting the weight of a vehicle when it is doing so.
Air tanks don't explode like a bomb with flames and all, but they CAN explode from the outrush of pressurized air if the pressure is high enough (a normal air tank will NOT be high enough). The tank would have to be in the 1000s of psi to explode like most think of.
I shot an old expired fire extinguisher with my rifle, and while it was CO2, not air, it blew up like a hand grenade, and that round cylinder was almost a flat sheet of aluminum when it was done.
Gases under high pressure do dangerous things when suddenly released....may as well be a bomb.
Using one as a rock rail or slider, you won't be able to put enough pressure in it for it to do much more than 'POOF' or 'WHOOSH' if it fails catastrophically.

I have never seen 3/16 wall 2x6 puncture or break. I've seen Cherokees that got t boned and it just pushed the slider in and didn't rupture the 2x6 itself. I have come down on mine hard enough to cause the interior lights to come on, and I haven't dented or ruptured my sliders. Can it rupture? Sure, but I'm sure I have a lot of other serious problems too, and it's not high enough pressure for anything to even happen like you said. I would never hold 1000s of psi in them, but for the ~100 psi I run I'm not worried at all.
If they were, they'd get punctured.
And I agree, its more likely you'll crack your XJ in half then you breaking the slider....bend yes, break no.

I won't play with compressor tanks. They make me nervous. See above link for a news story of a man who died when one exploded. A regular home use air compressor tank. When air decompresses uncontrolled, it decompresses rapidly and violently.
