Retrieving a winch from the top..?
Ok so i have built a bumper here in the past few days and have a problem, the slots i made are to small for the winch to have the line pass through from the bottom, but if the spool was re spooled to where it was pulling in through the top of the winch (so the line would fit with out rubbing) would it cause a problem?

spooling from the top is not recommended by the manufacturer.
look on the case beside the drum, there should be an arrow to let you know the manufacturers recommended spool direction.

I understand that, but i have heard of a few people using winches up into the top and have not had any problems. I am pretty much being lazy and not wanting to re cut and weld this piece but if i absolutely have to then i have no problem doing it. Just looking to save some time and hassle. Already have to many hours into it as it is (Wife is getting pissed that im not inside sitting on the couch with her is what im trying to say)

the winch has a drum brake that is direction specific. when you respool the cable in reverse, you will essentially be dragging the brake when winching, then if the winch stops and the vehicle wants to roll backwards, you have no brake, therefore causing serious injury or death.
so it looks like leaving the winch facing backwards like you have it is your only option. there's nothing wrong with it mounted that way, at least your brake is still operable.
