Default renix distributor won't seat in 2000 block

I have adapted a 2000 motor to my 89 2 door. Everything went well until I tried to fit the distributor into the block. It engaged fine but was sitll 1/8 to 3/16 shy of seating against the block. It ended up breaking the tab off of the housing and spit out the dist. Got a reman dist and used washers to space it up. Now it ate the dist. gear. Am I missing something? HELP!!

Yep. I have a 2000. If I were you I would compare with the 2000 model drive. See what the differences, if any, are.

I've had reman dizzies that had too long of a tang on them. You know, where it goes into the oil pump drive? Not as big a difference as you have though.

I carefully ground the tang down.

Do not have 2000 cam position sensor to compare. Was hoping to hear from someone that has put a Renix distributor in this type block.

That's not a problem. Take your distributor down to the auto parts store. Ask them if they have a CPS for a 2000 XJ. Lay your distributor right there on the counter next to it and compare. If you need to keep it for a while, just buy it and return it within 30 days. As long as you don't use or damage it, they shouldn't care.
