I upgraded to a 136a from a gc and got an external voltage regulator p# vr733

I have one terminal on the vr to a ign on 12v and the other going to a field terminal on the alternator

The alternator will no charge unless I hard wire it to a 12v from the battery.

The field terminal on the regulator is putting out 5_6 volts so it is working but as soon as you touch the field wire from the alternator the voltage disappears and reads 0

Tried 3 regulators and 2 alternator

Why did you go the ND? You can get 140A out of a CS-130 without a problem (using an OEM part from a high-end GM vehicle,) and then just swap the front housing to convert to your mounting.

Dump the ND, dump the ext reg, and do it right.

EDIT - In my experience, Delco makes a far better part anyhow...

Look at all the aggravation you avoided.

I've been interested in relocating my alternator since I realized my woman's 04 grand is mounted up top away from all the mud and water. Alternators last me a few months tops! Seems I'm replacing them 2 or 3 times a damn year. Her alternator is 130amp as well. 130 and a second battery would more than suit my needs.
