Removing the pressed in swaybar link bolts
I'm having a heck of a time getting these stupid bolts out. I know they are pressed in and I've tried every solution I've found in search and they aren't budging so I need some other suggestions.
I tried a 6" C clamp with a large socket on one side and I bent the freak'n clamp. I've tried beating the crap out of them with a 3lb sledge and the bracket just gives to take up the force of the blow. I tried hitting the bracket from one side with one hammer and the bolt with another hammer, both at the same time and no go. I've been soaking them with PB for about a week now. I even tried heating them up with a propane torch and beating them out. I'm about to cut them off with an angle grinder and drill out the middle of the bolt. Is this my only option?

^^^^^Yup. Heat the mount making it expand releasing pressure on the pin. I cut mine off and used a punch from the the sides after drilling it out. It was a pita but was well worth my $6.75 quick discos

I used a HF $10 ball joint press .. it took all of 30 seconds each side without heat.. leave the nut on the tip of the bolt to keep the ball joint press from sliding off the bolt

Cut the head off, then with the nut on the threaded side crank the nut down, it will pull the bolt right through since there is no head on it .Might have to stack some washers on the nut side

UN150N: I've been looking for the cheap press at HF and all I can find is a $70 set. Got an item # by chance?
Skunkape: I like that idea. Hopefully the threads aren't too buggered up.

It works its stupid simple and doesn't require renting or buying a thing. As long as your threads are ok.Somebody told me to do it that way and I felt stupid for not figuring it out on my own.

And the winner is........
The gear puller. I had to machine a small piece that slipped over the bolt and over the end of the puller cause it kept going crooked but after that, worked like a charm. Thanks fellas!

I tried a bunch of ways with no luck. The WORST advice I tried was BFH; I bent my brackets. Pitman arm puller didn't fit. C-clamp wouldn't stay in position. I ended up getting them out with ball joint press rented for free from O'Reilley's. Came out super-easy. Mine is a '97 xj. Bolt was splined.
