I’m looking to relocate my AC vent for room for a CB and Audio deck in the bezel. Has anyone relocated the AC vent to either of these location? Looking to move vent in “red” to either locations in “green” has anyone done this, please Post your pictures
I saw a pick of one XJ where the owner moved the HVAC controls down one slot down to where the outlet is now and used the radio space and the former HVAC control space for a flat screen display.
I thought about doing this, but the dash itself is actually the duct work for your HVAC system in your Jeep.
If you mount a CB or stereo in the vent area, you will pretty much have a huge block for air to travel to the drivers side.
One thing if you decide to go this route, there is the duct that feeds the back seat area of a Cherokee under the console. I think you could do some plastic welding (fab work), to route the air up through that storage bin there with the use of the under console duct?
I know you have a Comanche so not sure if you would still have that duct (probably not).
If you want one of those, I have two here and you could have one for just the shipping.
Instead of me installing my CB in the dash, I ended up modifying the front of the console, so the CB will mount up there.
Still a work in progress, and should have it installed in a few days hopefully?

Things might be different with 97 an up but If I remember correctly last time I had the dash pulled apart in a pre 97 to R & R the heater box the HVAC had ducting.
First Gen 84-96 You can see in this picture the center vent area, and the flex duct that feeds the drivers side crotch vent is on the left of the center vent. But the drivers side is fed through the dash.
The HVAC unit actually feeds into the back of the dash. The dash is the main manifold for the system.

HVAC head unit. The top oval vent attaches to the defroster duct, and the rectangular opening is what seals up against the dash. From there the air runs through the dashboard.
Don't know if you are still thinking about doing this, but here are a couple pictures of the bottom of the HVAC unit that directs air to the back seat under the center console.
The larger manifold is for a non-console system, and the smaller one with the duct is for a center console Cherokee.
I posted this picture that I found on youtube in another thread. The guy said it was easy but didn't go into any detail. As stated above I'm really not sure how it could be easy considering the air ducts.
Know this one is a bit old but looking to do something similar here. Any idea how this was done? Or could you add a link to where you found this photo. Joying sent me the same picture with no additional info so not sure how this was done.
the trick to making this work was No factory hvac box.
I went to a smaller Mojave* I think 🤔 unit instead. Not for the sole purpose of a CB in the bottom location of the dash panel it was an evolutionary move. I wanted less heat bleeding into my cab, then I realized I needed defrost still then came small universal hvac fwiw.
