Default Ac delete

I'm considering putting in ac delete due to the fact that my ac doesn't work and my clutch has a nasty squeel. I have heard that this would be a dummy move because ac is important to defrost. Anybody else done this, how much would it be to fix ac, and are what are benefits of the delete?

If your ac doesn't work then how would it help with defrost?

You don't need A/C to defrost. That's the heater's job

I did the A/C delete a couple months ago and still defrost just fine.

Go to rockauto.com, they sell an A/C bypass pulley for about $20

I would't say you'll see big performance or MPG gains by deleting the A/C. And I'm not sure if that bearing is serviceable. I recall seeing a write up written by Serious Offroad on servicing a bearing. Pretty much you take the pulley/bearing apart, pack it with grease and put it back together. I'm not positive that's your issue though because I know there's oil inside the a/c compressor that acts as a lubricant. That may have leaked out and destroyed it altogether. Then again, I'm by far an expert on the a/c system and I'm just thinking out loud

How hard was the install?,Im definetly interested.

Does it require a smaller belt?

Is there a write up?

With the bypass pulley, you use the same sized belt.

Super easy install. Basically, get the refrigent out of the system (this is the part I don't know how to do, as mine was already empty), take off the belt, unplug the electrical connector to the compressor, undo the 2 metal lines running to the back of the compressor, take off the 4 bolts holding the compressor onto the fan clutch bracket, bolt on the bypass pulley with the 4 bolts that come with the pulley and put the belt back on. Done.

What I also did was remove the A/C condensor (sits in front of the radiator) and also took out all the A/C lines just to clean up the engine bay. You don't need to do that though.

If my A/C stopped working I would relocate my alternator to the top of the engine where the A/C was. Replaced my alternator 3 times due to water and mud ( luckily got all 3 under warranty). Here's the write up I found on naxja. http://www.naxja.org/forum/showthread.php?t=1059479
Just an idea for you.

Rock auto doesn't list the a/c bypass pulley. Any body got a part number to reference.

I would do something similar. I would flip a coin on making on-board air or dual alternators. But at almost 300K my A/C still blows as cold as Antarctica so I will just wait until it brakes.

P.S on my third in the last year. Yay for warranties. Glad my auto part store don't give me a hard time. They know what I put my jeep threw.

Well I figured out an issue I have been having today. Yall would never guess. There is something wrong with the clutch on the compressor haha. So I have decided. I am mounting another alternator in the factory compressor location. I just have to make a bracket for it. I already have a spare alt. It will be good for my eventual winch anyway. Sucks how cold it blows though. My club gives me crap for having working a/c anyway lol.
