Recovery Points
Since i got the lift done I realize I need some recovery points...as I have zero...I'd like some tow hooks but i can't find any other than from a hardware store...however it doesn't look like they are long enough to reach from the uni to the bumper...what are some CHEAP recovery points I can invest in for my first real wheeling trip

Get one for the receiver if you have a hitch......front is a different story but usually you get pulled out from the back anyway.

Word to the wise ... do not "cheap out" on recovery gear. Good recovery gear can be worth the price of your Jeep. You don't have to break the bank, but you can get a used hitch from a junk yard or Craigs List - there are lots of deals out there. I run front & rear hitches, not a fan of hooks, but lots of people use them with good results. Google "Cherokee Tow Hooks" or Recovery Gear", or other similar search terms. There's good stuff out there if you really try.

I know my "hitch" is strong...I've pulled a huge boat with it and ive towed a huge dodge with it...I just dont understand why i don't have an actual hitch...it mounts to the frame like a normal hitch then the ball mount mounts to the part on the unibody

There's a hitch on this one maybe right in your back yard.
Dude ... you serious?

But when it comes to recovery I tend to be ****. I won't even use the receiver butlt into my rear bumper or the hooks on my front bumper. Hitch or nothing.
But again ... that's just me.

If you want towhooks....id go with the C4x4 kit. Its really not that expensive when you think of all the damage that could happen when you cheap out on recovery points.

another option is the stock tow hooks that came on the XJ's. If you can find a set in the u-pull it yard they will bolt right up. I grabbed a pair for less than $20

when I say "hooks" I am more referring to the mounting brackets that tie into the unibody. You can get a new set of the actual hook itself from autozone, but how you mount it to your jeep is where the strength, or lack thereof really comes into play

I drilled a couple holes thru some hot rolled flat bar to match the hooks and bolted the other end of the flat bar to my front frame horn. Have pulled those plenty, strong! I often link the two front hooks with a short tree saver strap and put my extraction strap on the treesaver strap, distributes the pull to both hooks.
