Default Rear tailgate push button

Have a 96 jeep Cherokee Xj I just picked up the rear tailgate has no push button were you put the key it stays locked I just want to find a push button and the part you stick key in there I tried looking couldn't find any except quadratec had one for just a 94 Cherokee I couldn't find any part numbers

So I need the push button part and will the regular door locks work to put in the push button cylinder

I just looked at my '96. The cylinder is the push button. Button's metal.

As near as I can find from searching is there is a clip that holds it in. MAYBE it's still inside the latch assembly. This is for a '97 but I'm guessing it's similar to ours.

Didn't mean the lock cylinder might be in there. I meant the clip.

Not sure about what yrs will fit. Maybe others here will reply about that.

Well I got a used one that works and have everything pulled off but does anyone know which way the little L shape thing goes

Looking at mine through the bottom of the liftgate as I work the key everything that moves is under the cylinder. I'd say it goes down. Actually,from what I can see it doesn't look like there would be room for it to fit in the up position. Did you find out what holds the cylinder in?

It's a c clip that holds it in I took mine apart and someone had knocked it in with a hammer as you see in pic they knocked the whole bottom out lol
