I've had my Quadratec HD springs for less than two years now, and they're already more worn out than the original springs they replaced. I need a set of leaf springs that will last me more than a year and a half, and handle my abuse. I also need springs that give no more than 2" of lift. What do you guys recommend? And please don't say a bastard pack, I ditched the HD springs for a bastard pack, and that only lasted a month before breaking a main leaf and having to go back to the HDs. I just need a quality off the shelf spring.

 

Deaver or alcan.

 

Cant wait for Alcan to build me a set of springs. I need them as soon as I can get them.
And I won't put Deavers on my XJ. They only list 4" springs for the XJ, unless I'm missing something. And that's way too tall. I feel its almost too tall already at 3" of lift.

OME doesn't make the 2" rear springs anymore, only the 2.5-4" model which netted me a generous 4". They say you can remove a leaf (extra leaf installed at factory) to lower about 1/2" which I may do at some point to soften the ride a bit and then add a shackle. I did opt for the stiffer springs (CS033RA) but I still think with the softer springs and leaf removed you would still be well +2"

 

Check out General Spring in Kansas City. I am on my phone or I would post the link. They have stock or will custom make anything you want. The springs I got for my Power Wagon have worked wonderfully. I put them on the front with a big block 400, winch and a 100+ pound bumper and they haven't sagged in eight years.

 

Id still go with OME. .5 inches is not much difference.

 

BDS has a 3 inch lift leave spring for the Cherokee and they are a seven leave spring.
Reasonable priced too.

 

I have a friend who installed 31' x 10.50 15's on a 91 Laredo. I told him he's going to need to lift it up for 31's x 10.50's to work without rubbing.

I suggested a S-10 bastard pack and he was thinking of swapping XJ springs with some springs 91 dodge pickup converted into a trailer. However I told him the XJ spring would lower the trailer and suggested he take a trip with me to the JY.

At the JY the person had some springs he had removed lying under some trees in the JY, so we chose a pair for $40.00 ($20.00 / ea.) The spring were a little longer than the XJ's leaf pack and measured 2.75 inch wide (instead of 2.5 in wide) There was also iirc there was six leaves total including the overload spring.

So he decided since he only wanted a max. 3 inch lift to use only three springs from the pack (iirc also included the overload spring?) Anyway the lift using the primary XJ spring and 3 of the JY springs turned out to be a perfect height for the rear with 31 x 10.50 x 15s.

Taking a closer look at the JY spring we fround the word "Ford" stamped on the springs so we're thinking the springs are possibly from a Ford pickup. The leaves appear to be thicker than the XJ stock springs and are 2.75 in. wide (instead of 2.5 in wide) however the XJ bands could be made to fit around the bastard pack. So two bands were installed on the front and rear of both sides.

The JY and XJ springs were cleaned up with a wire brush from an angle grinder and then spray painted with some rustolem.

Both eyes of the JY main spring were cut off short enough to fit the XJ primary spring. It's important that the eyes are XJ size for both front and rear of the bastard pack. You may need to experiment some in order to find the correct size lift.

 

Hope you check the reviews first on the alcan springs. New owner and from what i have read amd herd around town he just doesn't really care anymore and " He knows what hes doing" type BS. Lots of measurement issues on there part or springs getting bent wrong. Just a heads up on them before you go spending outrageous prices on springs do your resurch on them

wish I had already bought them. The price has gone up a little in the past year.

 

I’m definitely going with these if I ever have the extra cash. Not sure which rate I’ll go with yet. Only thing is that they provide no lift which I’m fine with. I only want an inch or 2 and will either use shackles or relocation brackets for the rear lift.
