Default Rear shock bolt removal help

Hey guys... so this is all going to make it to my build, but for now...

So today i went out to swap my rear shocks. Every single bolt holding the top of the shocks in snapped.

I drove to school after the first one snapped thinking nothing of it because there was still one holding it on. came home to do the rest and

hmm, a little out of place... so the one you can see is snapped and the other is still in there... i figured no biggie that makes it easer, took my socket. snap.

well f**k. let me try the otherside... snap. snap.

yep, I just used an air hammer to knock them out, then reached up through the big triangle holes, dropped new bolts through and put the shocks up with new nuts and lockwashers.

OK. Happens to everybody.

Here's what you do. Once you pound or drill out the remaining bolt pieces, DO NOT bolt back to the same location. Use a mount plate or relocator.

Two products come to mind:

I use the Karnage HD shock mount plates. Works great and the problem is gone forever. http://www.ebay.com/itm/JEEP-CHEROKE...6eb7ff&vxp=mtr

Detours Offroad makes a similar product called shock relocator.

it'll work fine in the same spot. Just 5-10 years from now when you go to change the shocks again, those bolts will probably break again, lol. Bar pin eliminators aren't a bad way to go though.

I remember when I snapped those bolts thinking ohhhh **** this is going to be a problem. Figured out the air hammer trick and had it fixed in ten minutes.

I used the relocating brackets. I am very happy with them, super easy to install. A bit pricey, but make future shock swaps easy. It was worth the money in my opinion.

Yep I did the same method as most others have posted just a couple weeks ago when 3 of 4 of my broke. Air hammer had them out in no time, way easier than I'd expected the job to be.

You can use a drill & just drill them out. Insert new bolt. Good to go

I have to be the first person ever in the rust belt that had them come out clean. Plan on BPE anyhow, got to do something with those old sway bar mounts.
