its a messy job make sure you drain the oil as far in advance as possible so you dont get as much oil dripping on your head while you're trying to work theres tons of write ups on how to do it but after you tap the top portion out the other side as far as possible i found 90% needle nose pliers were sweet for grabbing it and pulling it the rest of the way http://img1.fastenal.com/productimages/0267581_hr4c.jpg
then just take your time and make sure you get the new one in right and get a good seal on your pan gasket

nope, keep the tranny attached. the main seal is a 2 piece design.
you may have to lower the front axle a bit tho to get the oil pan off. unless it's lifted.
use rtv over the ends of the seal on the cap.
a good tip is to use a 1 piece oil pan gasket and use fishing line to temporarily hold the gasket to the pan for ease of installation.

Make sure the leak ins't from the oil filter adapter and valve cover FIRST. Unbolt the shocks and maybe lower control arms to lower the axel if not lifted. Dont go cheap on the gasket, inspect the oil pump. Replace if needed. You won't want to do this job again so plan to fix any problems you find, NOW.

most likely it hasnt. but what i have done is take a small punch and tap on one end and let the other side slide out until you can grab it with needle nose pliers. make sure you dont hit ur crank with the punch and scratch it. cuz once you do that, you might as well put the old seal back in

also helps to turn motor with ratchet and socket on crank bolt while pushing it out same as when putting in new one
The seal will have a metal inner to it. Try to hit on that with a small punch as stated. ive always had luck with the small flat screwdriver. Once its started it will go remember u are gouing around in a circle not straight up. when u get it out some take a dry blue shop towel (for example) and grab the seal with that. the dry towel gets a good grip on it so u can spin it out. Be sure not to put the new one in backwards. Sometimes to much droop when u lower your front diff can be to much and make it harder to get the oil pan off too.
