I have an 8.25 out of a 2000 dodge Dakota and I was wondering if those are similar to the 8.25 from an xj. The reason being is because my turdy5 is starting to howl and im trying to get a rear end put together for the xj. Any info helps. Has anyone used the 8.25 from these trucks?

As far as I've heard there's only one axle housing. You'd probably need to do shock and spring perches though.

If you really wanted to be lazy you can take the guts from the 2000 and swap them into a pre-96 27-spline someone might be trying to get rid of for cheap. Instant 29-spline upgrade!

The only reason im asking is because I already have the complete rear end. Welding perches and shock mounts is not a big deal. I was just wondering if the widths and dimensions were relatively close.

I know. As far as that goes, I was gonna pull some xj 8.25 axle shafts and swap them in. Since I believe they are both 29 spline?

You can probably buy a complete 8.25 for under $100. Much much less work.
