Default Rear drive shaft question. Measurement needed.

So I just did my lift and I wanted to wait a while before installing my SYE. It can't wait. The driveline vibes are horrid. I'm hoping to find someone with nearly the same setup so I can get a measurement prior to doing the SYE so I can have the driveshaft already. I plan to run a front drive shaft on the rear I just need to know which one to get. So here is my setup. Hopefully someone can help by giving me a rough measurement.

6.5" lift.
Standard length SYE (not the ultra short) the one I have is a rugged ridge.
8.25 rear.

A friend has a few front drive lines. Just don't know which to get. I want to replace the joints in it prior to putting it in. Thanks a ton in advance for any help.

Don't mean to butt in but if someone has the measurement for a 4.5 inch lift as well that'd be helpful, I have a 8.25 as well.

Yup. I theory a front DS is good up to 6.5" to use or a ZJ would be better. OP, do a search on google for jeep front DS sizes and go out and measure what you got now. Yes the SYE kit makes all the difference and you may not get an answer until you install one. You have to remember that all jeeps are different

I'm running a 6.5 inch long arm lift with a RR mega short SYE and a C8.25 and from yoke to yoke it was 38.5. I had to order a custom made driveshaft for my application. But here's a list of the driveshaft sized for Jeeps.

I picked up a front shaft from a 5.2 zj at the yard this weekend. Measures around 33" collapsed. Around 37" extended. I'm hoping this will work.

Has anyone ever needed a different front driveshaft due to lift? Longer to make up for the lift?

I would recommend a front shaft from a v8 ZJ. All the ones I have seen (and what I am currently using) are splined front shafts. Which seem to me,that they must be stronger then the XJ front shaft which I have never seen splined.

Also,You can take the ZJ front shaft apart. Meaning the end with the ujoint that ties to the front axle will slide out of the end with the universal Joint that ties to the transfer case.

Then with an angle grinder you can cut the splines down to what works for you.

At 5.5 inches of lift with an 8.25 rear and the IRO HnT slip Yoke eliminator the ZJ shaft did not fit, it was to big. I had to cut down an inch of splines. Also now I'm close to 8 inches and it still works great.

At 6.5 inches I feel like a ZJ shaft will work for you with some cutting and your saving yourself alot of money.

What are you running for. Rear shaft? Did you get it figured out?
