Just finished up the rear liberty 8.25 disc brake swap on my 94. Holy crap. Hella brakes now.
I did have to open the axle holes up a little, maybe the newer 8.25 tubes are smaller?
I had to use some grade 8 bolts and grind a flat spot on the heads to clear the axle tubes because like an idiot I didn’t get the studs for the backing plates. But the install went easy. Found some parking brake cables, rt offorad part #RT31039 that fit perfect. I do need to modify the lever to make it have more throw, because they engage all the way at the top, I like it about 3/4 of the way.
when I first did it I didn’t change the proportion piston, spring and cap, the rear brakes was about 30 degrees hotter than the front and wasn’t grabbing like they should, swapped those parts from a Zj disc brake prop valve and re-bled the rears then all 4 corners was 3 degrees of each other.
before the swap when I hit the brakes it would nose dive, and barely stop. Now the whole jeep squats and stops like a newer car.
100% worth the time and about $200 I’ve got in it, junkyard backing plates, new calipers, new rotors, parking brake pads and cables.
