Default Rear disc brake conversions?

Ok I am well aware you can buy a tremendously overpriced kit to achieve disc brakes on an XJ...also aware that with some work you can use ZJ d35 disc brakes on an 8.25...but i was at work the other day and had a Liberty on my lift for an oil change/ multi-point inspection and i realized that they have an 8.25 with disc brakes...

Can we use disc brakes off a liberty and swap it right onto our xj's???

thank you for the quick response sir didn't see why it wouldn't work but didn't know if there was some sort of catch in there like smaller axle tubes or something...

I saw a writeup on that a while back, can't remember where. I bet a Google search would turn it up though. It looked like an easy enough swap.

Liberty disk brakes are a direct swap to a factory 8.25. It`s the same axle except how it`s sprung. you do need the 2003 and newer. I checked on parts from the dealer and it was more than I paid for my 2000 XJ. not may in the wreckers yet but the ones I have found will not part out the brakes from the whole axle. Soooo.... i found a D35 ZJ with disc brakes for $50. I think grinding out the backing plate with a dremel tool is worth $500 that they want for the whole axle.

I did the swap from a grand cherokee... took me 10 minutes to "modify" the backing plates. Super easy swap. And, parts are a dime a dozen at pull-a-parts

Im in the process of doing the conversion stupid diff gears wouldnt spin today so got nothing accomplished...Should finish 2m...Got my parts off a d35 grand cherokee tho...I believe years 94-98? Cheaper this route imo....all you need is 10$ backing plate from JY and local parts store sells rotors for 25$ and calipers 28$ each brand new liftetime warranty !
