I've got a chance to buy a rear d60 but I need to make sure it's worth it.

Supposed details:

3.73 open
65" WMS-WMS
43" perch to perch
no yoke
$50

Does anyone know anything about this axle, what it came out of, cost and availability of parts, etc...?

Plans are to 4 link the rear, 3 link the front with a d60, ~43" rubbers, etc.

I'd probably buy it for $50.

Need a few more details like is it full float or semi and these axles came in just about all 3/4 and ton vehicles from Chevy, Dodge, Ford and Jeep. Even a few others. In the full float versions, which tend to be the strongest due to design, the shafts are the exact same size as a D44 so if you really want to run 43s plan on upgrading to 35 spline shafts. It's not hard. You can have the hubs machined or swapped over to D70 ones to clear the larger size shafts. I had mine machined but for all that cost you'd come out cheaper with a 14 bolt and be just as strong. Just for reference I've broken shafts in my 60, before the new chromos, running 38s.

here's the posting

A buddy of mine has a 14 bolt that's been sitting out back for years, but he's the kind of guy that anything he has is worth top dollar. (he wants 300 for it)

It's got a yoke on it but I guess they're keeping it. Brakes look like a late 60s early 70s model with the drums held on by two screws. Later versions you have to remove the shafts to get the drums off. Without a BOM number who knows what it's out of and depending on how much surface rust is on the tube you may not find one. I've got a 60s-70s Chevy version that I know the BOM but records don't go that far back to tell me what it's out of. It has a course spline pinion and only Chevy and Jeep used them and it's not from a Jeep. There are little tricks to determine what it's out of. As far as the high dollar 14 bolt, unless it's a CUCV version with the factory Detroit keep looking. They go for less than 150 all day long.

Only D60's really worth it are the d60u's found in dodge trucks/vans and ford vans. Better clearance and d70 hubs on them so 35 spline shafts are side gears away from install. Mine was a 98 or 99 and had disk brakes as well. Running the 32 spline stockers locked with 38.5's and previously 39.5's without issue, but the shaft is 1.5" minus a neck down for the spider gears to 32 spline.
