I have a 2001 cherokee xj with a 2.5 inch lift done in 2018, the rear leaf spring had dropped down, and bad rear shocks, so i purchased a 1.2 in block and u-bolt kit and new Skyjacker 7000 shocks and had them installed.
This turned out to be a really rough jarring ride when i hit a bump, especially when i am on a road with bumps.
The tires i have on it are discovery st maxx 31s, they pretty noisy going down the road. These tires are too noisy. When i brake they noisy as well.

Here's my question. Is it the coils/leafs that's causing most of the jarring, or are the shocks more responsible. I assume it's a combination between the two, but changing out the shocks is a far easier option than the other parts. I was hoping that perhaps since the XJs are so light that the Skyjackers are just too much shock for them.

Any suggestions?

 

get new leaf springs. Get rid of the blocks

I have Old man emu CS033rb leaf springs with Jk red Rubicon shocks and it rides good. Remove one leaf in the pack and it will be between 2.5 and 3 inches. Tires make a difference in ride too.

 

Get full leaf springs in the rear. Blocks are just band-aids. Then get quality shocks like Bilstiens. That will solve your problem...if your front is not on blocks and crappy shocks.

They will most likely sit at 3 - 3.5 inches with one leaf removed ( the middle one) until it settles a half inch.

 

I don't think lift block is making the ride rough and jarring. Id wonder about shocks being to short to long or shackle possibly contacting the frame. If shocks have boots over the shaft. Remove them see how much shock shaft is showing. You might be bottoming out or over extending the shocks. Or both together causing a jarring under compression and extension.

You can cycle the suspension with a floor jack with the frame sitting on Jack stands to get a good visual of what's going on on both the front and rear end.

I wouldn't spend any money until you confirm a known good direction to send that money in.

Pictures will help others help you instead of just saying do this and guessing.

 

I agree with Evan. The blocks will not affect ride quality since they don't change the spring rates. My experience with Skyjacker so far is that their stuff rides rough. I have done a lot of experimenting over the years (I used to sell lift kits) and have found that shock rates make a big difference. Not all shocks are created equal. Mine rides pretty good, better than my 05 Crown Victoria. I use shocks with soft compression rates and high rebound rates. Ten stage valving too. I had to adapt these by changing bushings, but you can get about the same with Bilstein 5100s and Old Man Emu shocks.
