I got the eyeless of the axles put in after a hassling with them for a while. But now the pin that needs to drop into the axle and the actual axle is about a good 4 inches off, how do I fix this?
I thought of releasing both u-bolts to free up axle and try pushing axle to fit but I'm not sure if I will have trouble with the stock rear driveshaft being pushed too much into the slipyoke.
Have no pictures sorry.
ANY help is very appreciated!!!

Is the pit offset on the spring? any chance its installed backwards?
I just checked a set of lift leafs I have laying around, the pin is offset. If I were to guess I'd say the spring needs swapped the other direction.

This. Turn it around. Usually the front spring eye is much bigger than the rear.Originally Posted by crdude

You need to post pics or a better description of your problem.Originally Posted by 1998xjspt

1) the bigger eye on the leaf goes to the front.
2) you should not have installed the u-bolts until the axle was on the centerpin.
If the leaf springs are correct, loosen the u-bolts and work the axle onto the center-pins, THEN tighten the u-bolts. With the Jeep up in the air axle might not be centered in the wheel well until its on the ground. Get the springs on right, then get the axle on the centerpins.
Also, with lift springs the axle should be down enough to free up slack in the slip yoke if its pushed forward some. Just put things in place and let us know how its going...
On both leafs, the centerpin is closer to one side than the other, I placed the centerpin closer to the front of the xj than the rear. My stock leafs had it's centerpin closer to the front than rear so I assumed it needed to be the same for the RE leafs.
It seemed like the leaf springs were too short and we had to jack it up to flatten them out a bit to get them to reach each hole. After messing around and finally getting them in. The centerpin in not really centered on the leafs. And the axle sits behind the pin about 4 inches.
starting from the centerpin. Does the longer side of the leaf go toward the front or rear of the jeep?
I am on an itouch so I need wifi to go on the forum, I will see if I can take some pictures and post up my problem. Thankyou for all of the help guys!

The leaf spring has a big bushing eye on one end and a smaller one on the other end. The big bushing eye goes to the front. This is the only way to install your leafs, not based on the pin. You need to check if you have them on correctly first.Originally Posted by 1998xjspt

If memory serves, RE leafs ride with the axle slightly forward in the wheel well...this will probably be exaggerated with the jeep on stands and the axle hanging....

Didn't RE have the same eye on both ends of the spring or was it just the older ones that ate bushings? Regardless, the shorter end goes forward.

both had the same size eyelets. i just went off of which ends are longer and yes, i put them towards the rear. should be getting the right size ubolts tomarro. gotta wait til my day off wednesday to try and get everything in the rear finished and then pray that i dont have driveline vibrations so i dont have to install the slipyoke...Originally Posted by jbsjunk
