Random RPMS
one in 5 times (roughly) that i start my xj the rpms spike to 3000. after a few minutes it balances out to about 1500 but still high. in drive the rpms are high enough to go through to second gear without my foot on the pedal. ive heard that the issue is a throttle position sensor, an idle air control, vaccum problems, air filter problems or fuel injectors. all tother times i start it it runs smooth. if any one has experienced this please throw some knowledge at me

A good throttle body cleaning is a good place to start. Along with the IAC cleaning. Unplug your TPS, the flat 3-wire connector and look for corrosion. Spray it out with electrical contact cleaner.
