Finally got myself a 2000 Cherokee XJ. I have been doing a ton of research and from what I can tell they tend to run a little hot and a lot of people get larger radiators and do the taurus electric fan mod. Here in MN we have some hot summer days, but we also have very cold winters so I am wondering if I should upgrade anything.
I'm in central Florida, it gets hot here (that's a understatement). In my 2001 I run a stock Spectra replacement, stock thermostat, stock electric fan and stock fan clutch. I can idle around all day on the beach or in the woods and it stays about 200. I do however, have the large size, run cool hood louvers that I installed last summer before I panted the Jeep.
I like Jeepy2013 run a Napa (Spectra) radiator too. With a cheaper 195 Napa thermostat. It does not get hot here like in Florida but cooling system works good. With a stock electric fan and the mechanical fan shroud.
I watched a video showing how a properly operating fan clutch should work. Turned out mine did not. So I replaced it. Thing is while I don't spend time getting stuck in traffic I do let the Jeep idle for long periods of time in the
driveway when doing some things. Still ran fine with the old fan clutch. But I did put 5.9 Grand Cherokee hood louvers in my XJ. Not cause I was having problems but because I really liked the look.
