It's commonly referred to as a LunchBox Locker.

It's installed in place of the side and spider gears in your carrier.

I recommend a selectable locker for you NP242 owners.

It's not difficult just pull axles and carrier marking everything and replacing the spiders. It's like a lift, straight forward but can have hiccups. As for a selectable that would be nice but being a college student with a nice workload and no time for a job makes money very limited so that's not really in the question for me. Apparently it's just like learning to drive again, you'd want to go somewhere isolated and practice with a lunchbox to fully understand it's behavior and try to slip it to grasp what to do if &when it does on the road.

I have a Aussie lunch box Locker in the rear, had one up font for a while but it didn't do good in the snow and ice, i live in Alaska trust me on the ice thing. That's why i went selectable on the front. But get ready to spend some bucks if you go selectable, oh yeah my t-case is a 242.

I still have the np249 And have a lockrite in the rear. Not bad on the street, or snow, parking lots is the only place I really hear it or feel it.
