So I did the ax swap I used a transfer case from a 95 which spedo had an elcectric plug ontop the gear my 88 has a mechanical connection my spedo gear won't fit in the tails fat housing and the gear that's in there from the og housing won't drive my spedo cable. What do I do

 

Use the speedo sensor from the 88, with appropriate gear.

I believe the 95 was short shaft, and the 88 is a long shaft gear.. find a long gear with the correct tooth count for your application.

 

I tried that it would not fit for some reason I will try again. My 88 has the long shaft you are right.
