Yes the old thrust washers should be installed on most lockers. Read the instructions ...

The instructions do not mention reinstalling the thrust washers but I will try that, when I installed without them it seemed to have to much play

I just tried to install with the thrust washers but there is not enough room to get the other gear in back to square one!

When I was reading up on the powertrax I thought I remember reading that it's the only one that doesn't reuse those washers.

You might be confused with Spartan Lockers

  • Remove the bolts on the differential cover and drain the oil.
  • There is a cross shaft retaining bolt that holds the cross shaft in place. Remove this bolt and the cross shaft can be removed.
  • Push in each axle to remove the c-clips (if the vehicle has c-clips). C-Clips hold the axles in place. On some vehicles, the axles are held in place at the outer ends of the axles near the wheels.
  • Remove the stock side and spider gears and the thrust washers that are on the these gears.
  • Install the Lock-Right gears in place of the original side and spider gears. The thrust washers are re-used. If the vehicle uses c-clips they are put back in place.
  • Install the cross shaft, retaining bolt, differential cover and fill with oil.

So I will try again with the thrust washers installed also with further inspection the two inner spring are different in length and the dimensions are slightly different is that the way they are supposed to be?

It's very possible. I did end up purchasing a spartan after shopping powertrax, so you're probably correct.

Be sure the use the included gauge to check your spacing. Its a piece of key stock and the instructions tell you where and how to check.

Just to clear everything up, no thrust washer with the NO-SLIP. Use the check block to make sure the center spacing is correct. With the LOCK RIGHT thrust washers are reused.
