i found a 91 cherokee with 218K on the clock, modified with a 5" lift and 33" wheels. i was looking for a newer one (98 or newer range), but this one i might be able to get for a reasonable price. any issues with that year and anything i should look for?

Age is the main issue, although all XJ's are old.
Parts may be hard to find for a '91. If you could find a '99 you would be better off.
Just my 2 cents worth.

Nothing particularly wrong with that year other than it's 25 years old, and you should be prepared to work on it occasionally. 218k miles not not a lot if it's been maintained. That can be difficult to figure out sometimes. You might want to find out what kind of lift is on it and ask more knowledgeable people about the specifics of it.
Id make sure it has a sye kit installed on it.The way to tell look at the rear driveshaft where it goes in to the t case.If you see a rubber boot with v bends in the rubber it don't have a sye kit.Do you know the brand lift or is it a short arm or long arm?

I have had my '91 for a few years now with almost 300,000 miles on it. So far, parts are fairly easy to find and it has been one of the most dependable vehicles that I have had. It was pretty beat up when I got it and is still a work in progress but I would not hesitate to jump in it right now and drive coast to coast.

I have a 91 daily but I've constantly had to replace things to keep it on te road which was expected of a 25 year old jeep. As long as the engine and tranny are alive and well to me it's a hobby fixing and modifying my jeep but also co side that. Do you have the tools, time, and knowledge to wrench on your jeep because you will have to constantly.
