You really need to be more detailed in your post. We are not Carnac the Magnificent.

What kind of wear? Front or rear brakes? Pads, rotors, or drums and shoes, what is "odd", and where? ABS? What year specifically Cherokee?

We can't help you if you don't help us...

by any chance are u experiencing unusual wearing down of inner brake pads? If so, I would look into checking your hub bearings. They changed in mid 99. Putting wrong hubs with wrong brake rotors would eat up the brake pads

If its the front it can be many things like warped rotors,Bad wheel bearings or even a caliper with a sticking piston. The rear can be warped drum bad wheel bearing or even a bent axle.If you go off road in a lot of mud the mud can eat up a set of pads fast.

This was exactly my point. Without proper information we can sit here and speculate all day long as to what it could or couldn't be. Could be anything, seeing as how we don't know exactly what the issue is, or where. I'll withhold any diagnosis until the OP replies with something more specific.

The pins that the rotors sit on get rusty and won't slide causing your brakes to apply not fully but enough to make some odd noises then it wears your pads down
