Default Possible transmission problems

I drive a 98 2nd generation jeep Cherokee. I bored the original 4.0 30 over, lifted the suspension 4.5" and I'm rolling on 33" tires. Here recently I put the needle gauge cluster in it, I did have the fuel/speedo and the rest were lights, and it works great so now I have a tachometer. But after I put it in I now can pay attention to my engine revolutions. It use to work fine on the highway, and highways here are 70 mph. But now I can't get it to go into fourth gear, just completely misses it. I'll set cruise at 70, and as I'm driving along it slowly loses speed and won't go back up. If I even so much as tap the gas it launches itself into 3rd gear, then into fourth and immediately into fifth and with it being such a low gear it can't keep up with the speed. So it's go under the speed limit or rest at 65+ at 3000 RPM. Any ideas yet? I don't know transmissions at all so any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Just a thought, but have you check the transmission fluid? That is what it sounds like to me. That would be the easiest thing to check.

If after you do that, you might have to replace the solenoids. Not as ominous as it sounds. Here is a youtube video of someone doing it.

You know I haven't thought of that, I was thinking it was the vacuum, I'll definitely check that after work

Well I checked the dipstick and I'm full and clear. So I'm assuming it could be the solenoids

Sounds like 33" tires, 4 1/2" lift and a stock set of gears the 3.55's. With the 33's you need a 4.56 gear and a new speedometer gear for the trans.

Is it in fact the stock gear?

I have an 8.8 rear end I'm putting under it for the disks, and I'm putting 3.73 gears into it

Personally I have a manual trans and 4.10s and had 33s and that was perfect but with an auto trans I highly recommend atleast 4.10s for decent gas mileage and acceleration. Not trying to seem aggressive but I don't 3.73s are going to be enough for 33s.
